Terms of Service

1. Acceptance

By creating an account or using Random Roster, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Random Roster is intended for use by educators, school administrators, and other authorized adults. By registering, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old and authorized to handle student roster information in your professional capacity.

Students under 18 must not create accounts. Student names entered into the service are user-supplied labels provided by the teacher; students do not interact with the service directly.

3. Description of service

Random Roster is a web-based tool for educators to manage class rosters, generate balanced student groups, build seating charts, and share class information with substitute teachers. The Free plan is provided at no charge. The Pro plan requires a one-time payment and unlocks additional features.

4. Your responsibilities

Data ownership and FERPA

You are the data controller for any student data you enter. You are responsible for ensuring your use of Random Roster complies with applicable laws and regulations in your jurisdiction, including FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, and your school's data governance policies. Random Roster processes student data on your instruction as a service provider.

You must not enter full student names, government IDs, or other sensitive personal information if doing so would violate your institution's data policy. Using first names only or anonymized identifiers is sufficient for the service to function.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the service for any purpose other than legitimate classroom management.
• Share your account credentials with students or unauthorized parties.
• Attempt to access another user's data.
• Reverse engineer, scrape, or abuse the service.
• Enter data about minors in a way that violates applicable child privacy laws.

5. Sub-teacher share links

The share link feature (Pro) generates a read-only link to your seating chart and roster. You are responsible for managing and revoking share links. Random Roster limits what information is visible through share links (no capability levels, notes, or account details), but you are responsible for ensuring that sharing a link is consistent with your school's policies and applicable law.

6. Payment and Pro license

The Pro plan is a one-time lifetime license for a single user account. Payment is processed by Square, Inc. All sales are final; refunds are available within 14 days of purchase if the Pro features did not function as described. Contact support@randomroster.com for refund requests.

7. Data ownership

You own the data you enter into Random Roster. We do not claim any rights over your class data or student labels. You can export all your data at any time via the dashboard and permanently delete it by deleting your account.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep Random Roster available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may update, modify, or discontinue features with reasonable notice. We are not liable for any loss of data or access resulting from outages or maintenance.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, Random Roster is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including any compliance issues that arise from your own handling of student data.

10. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from the dashboard. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination, all your data is permanently deleted.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or by a notice in the dashboard. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
